Sand Scarcity in a Post-Scarcity World: Ecological Collapse Driven by Non-Renewable Resource Extraction in Minecraft

Abstract

Technological progression in virtual physical simulation environments has enabled the absurd, near-complete automation of material production, effectively ushering in a post-scarcity utopia for almost every structural block class. However, SiO2-based particulate matrices (hereafter referred to as “Sand”) remain a catastrophic structural exception: a non-renewable, absurdly high-demand resource required for industrial glass architecture and explosive demolition. Here, we demonstrate that this economic asymmetry produces hyper-focused, predatory extractive pressure on desert biomes. Through rigorous observational field analysis, we show that relentless shovel-based harvesting drives total landscape destabilization, local extinction of hostile Husks, and severe hydrodynamic trauma. Our findings parallel real-world sediment extraction crises, proving that even in a world where gravity is optional, corporate hubris remains non-negotiable.
