Abstract
This researcher has quantified a compelling correlation between ‘A’ names and Olympic gold in women’s singles figure skating. With recent gold medallists Adelina Sotnikova, Alina Zagitova, Anna Shcherbakova, and Alysa Liu in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026 respectively, parents attempting to raise the next Olympic champion should take note [1].

1. Introduction
Since 2014, women’s singles figure skating at the Olympics has been dominated by athletes whose first name both begins and ends with the letter ‘A’. This perplexing relationship, coined by this author as the Alpha-Aura Convergence Criteria (AACC), is quantified within. This paper also details additional experiments that could test the bounds of this phenomenon, and it concludes with advice for parents attempting to raise the next gold medallist [2].
2. Methodology and Data
The first and last letter of the first name of the women’s singles gold, silver, and bronze medallists over the past 100 years were plotted as a function of the year they medalled (see Figs. 1, 2, and 3). Please note the author took the liberty of considering hyphenated first names as one name and hopes this unilateral decision will not be view as contentious. There are worse things to be angry about.

Figure 1: First and last letter of Olympic gold medallists’ first names plotted as a function of year. Notice that the Alpha-Aura Convergence Criteria has been met since 2014 following a steep drop of the first letter from Y to A.

Figure 2: First and last letter of Olympic silver medallists’ first names plotted as a function of year. Notice AACC was approached in 2022 but not fully achieved, much like a quintuple axel.

Figure 3. First and last letter of Olympic bronze medallists’ first names plotted as a function of year. This graph fails to exhibit AACC.
3. Results and Discussion
The Alpha-Aura Convergence Criteria was clearly met by the past sixteen years’ (aka four Winter Olympic years’) gold medallists. Silver medallists may be capable of exhibiting AACC for shorter periods of time, but more data is required. Alternatively, the Silver Convergence Blip (SCB) in 2022 may have been an extension of gold medal AACC since two competitors, Anna Shcherbakova and Alexandra Trusova, possessed names that met the criteria during that competition.
Two main hypotheses have been proposed to explain the Alpha-Aura Convergence Criteria. This author believes the phenomenon is connected to the star signs Aries and Aquarius because they are the only two signs that begin with the letter ‘A’. Aries is associated with traits including aggression, courage, determination, and passion, while Aquarii are known to be independent and original, and these attributes are necessary to become an exceptional artist and athlete [3, 4]. In other words, when a skater’s alpha-athleticism and aura meet, the destructive interference of the wave function generates A-flat. Such physics explanations are important when assessing the capabilities of Olympic athletes [5-6]
On the other hand, the sports linguist community would have readers believe that this is merely a coincidence due to Russia’s dominance within figure skating and common Slavic naming conventions. However, this reviewer rejects to this rhetoric on this basis that, firstly, Alysa Liu T-stops this pattern as an America skater, and secondly, the mainstream explanation lacks whimsy.
4. Conclusion and Parent’s Guide
Athletes who possess a first name that starts and ends with the letter ‘A’ are far more likely to win Olympic gold medals in women’s singles figure skating. This researcher thinks the Alpha-Aura Convergence Criteria will continue to be met in future years, especially given that many fans would Lutz to see Alexandra Trusova make a comeback in 2030.
Therefore, this researcher advises prospective parents keen on raising an Olympic-bound figure skater to name them with this study in mind. Other ways they could set their child up for success may include spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on ice time, coaching, and competitions. However, this researcher firmly believes naming would be the most important axis in a principal component analysis of these skaters’ success.
Potential further research should consider if changing one’s name meaningfully impacts AACC since this could provide a far more accessible avenue for elite figure skaters to secure Olympic gold.
