Ever daydream in AP Bio while trying to understand how cellular respiration works and just think to yourself, “Gosh, if I were one of the steps of the 8 step Krebs cycle, which one would I be?” Well who hasn’t? Each step just is so distinct and has their own personality, it doesn’t make any sense it isn’t used as a personality classifier! The Krebs cycle, also called the Citric acid cycle, is the process of releasing energy from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Somehow each step of micro processing those carbohydrates with water, GDP, NADH, and acetyl-CoA is not only the backbone of how cells do work, it says a lot about the human condition! So here we go!

Life of the party, it could be a boring get together and when you show up, everyone’s bouncing off the walls with energy. Just when things die down, you’re like “Hey who wants to do Tequila shots” even if you have to do it every ten minutes.

Always a refreshing break in the friend group. You’re always on the spot with those dumb cans of water liquid death.

What’s the last trendy DIY project you’ve completed?

You took some old decrepit Malate and oxidized it to an exciting glowing oxaloacetate. It really brings the room together.

Made some extremely high energy Guanosine triphosphate by reducing some old Succinyl-CoA lying around.

You took some Fumarate just taking up space in the closet and hydrated it to form malate, with the enzyme fumarase catalyzing this reaction like some crafting genius

Took some run down Succinate and oxidized it to make some craft Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide like a home repair expert

Started with a cumbersome six carbon Isocitrate, oxidized it a couple of times to produce a beautiful α-ketoglutarate by getting rid of some pesky CO2’s

Ya took a boring ole Oxaloacetate, took an unused Acetyl-CoA, spruced it up, dehydrated it, hydrated it again and ended with a beautiful isocitrate.

What do you typically bring to a project at work?

You’re the guy that’s always going to the bathroom and missing all the important moments because you’re constantly drinking water.

You cut out all the filler. You see some excess on your team, and you get rid of it and turn it into pure NADH or efficiency or something.

Every time someone says, ‘Man this project sucks-inate’ you just let some air into the room for everyone to fuminate out all that hate.

You like to put those finishing touches and close out with some meeting notes to be ready for the next meeting.

You bring all the important resources, whether it be the office supplies, the snacks, or just some Acetyl-CoA at least

You’re always the guy going to get coffee. When people start getting sleepy you get that caffeine brewin!
