About – J. Immat. Sci.

The Journal of Immaterial Science is another satirical journal, welcoming fictional research from all fields. It is a sister-journal to JABDE: our articles are published on their website, and their articles are published in our subreddit. We aim to publish one joke paper every week. Anyone can write an article for J. Immat. Sci., and articles can be about anything, as long as they’re funny. If you write a paper for us, we’ll send you a hardcopy of the journal for free!!!

Hardcopies

We also sell professionally printed hardcopies of our journals. You can buy them from our Etsy store or our Patreon page for about $40 AUD each (postage to everywhere included):

Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/ImmaterialScience

You can donate a bit of loose change too, if you want to support the journal. We use the money to pay the artists who draw our covers/figures, as well as to cover software license fees and internet hosting costs.

Submissions

We absolutely love it when people write articles for us. Manuscripts should be submitted to goodenough.immaterial.science@gmail.com. Ideally, you will receive the beer reviewer’s comments within seven days of submitting. These comments will aim to make your article as funny as possible, and fix the inevitable formatting fuckups that come with our poorly designed templates. Please note that J. Immat. Sci. has a no-AI-generated-content policy. That means we don’t want you to use ChatGPT to write the text, and we’ll replace any AI-generated images with real ones.

For articles of ~1.5 pages or more (~ 1000 words inc. figures), please download this template:

For shorter articles, please use this template:

If you are one of those LaTeX people, use whatever format you want and we’ll adapt it to our template.

There is no minimum word count for short submissions. If your submission is very short, we’ll publish it together with other such submissions in a combined article. There’s no maximum word count either, but it’s best to keep it less that ~4 pages.
